37th meal served this morning.
Each week at Grace’s Kitchen we read a scripture, share thoughts on the scripture, and pray before we begin serving. For the last few weeks we have asked God to increase the number of people in our prayer circle so that many will hear God’s Word and will be encouraged by it. We also put the same scripture in the food bags so people can have the encouragement throughout the week. This week as we looked around the circle during our devotion time, we were amazed by the number of people there, as well as the diversity of the group. We consisted of drug addicts, prostitutes, business people, former inmates, stay-at-home Mom’s, accountants, schizophrenics, tattoo-covered men and women, homeless people who had not bathed in weeks, atheists, Christians, and those in between. As we all held hands as God’s Word was read, we felt at home, and were thankful for our unity. Grace’s Kitchen serves a population that the world would rather forget exists. Some weeks we deal with difficult issues. We are sometimes taken advantage of and sometimes there are situations we would rather not find ourselves in. But we believe with all our hearts that the outcasts of society are still God’s creations. They are sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and grandparents. We have the opportunity to share the love of Christ with the freedom and understanding that God is the righteous judge and that He sees, hears, and knows every situation.
The diversity of Grace’s Kitchen on Thursday mornings is the exact diversity we believe God wants us to serve in the restaurant. God has been orchestrating amazing events lately that tell us we are to continue with this vision and take daily steps toward the goal. We are not confident in our abilities, but are confident in our great God. Please continue to keep Grace’s Kitchen in your prayers as we seek obedience to this call. Thank you for reading and for your support of Grace’s Kitchen.
