39th meal served this morning.
"The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning;great is your faithfulness."No matter what we have witnessed or experienced in our lives, there is always hope. Though the author of Lamentations grieves the destruction of Jerusalem, he also recognizes that there is another chance. A chance for redemption and forgiveness from a God who never gives up on us.
These verses from Lamentations 3 spoke volumes as we began our time in the park this morning. The people during the devotion were attentive and listened closely to the Word of the Lord. One man immediately opened his food bag after he sat down to eat, pulled out the scripture card, and re-read the verses. It was encouraging to see the desire for God's Word outweigh a physical desire in this man's life. There were many additional volunteers this morning and for that we were truly thankful. God always brings exactly who we need each week and ordains the conversations we have. We were able to serve many people, including a precious grandfather and two of his young grandchildren. Many of the conversations had by team members were deeper today and went beyond the usual pleasantries. Two different team members experienced difficulty leaving when it was time to go because of the conversations God allowed them to have. We prayed before we left for the park that God would pour out His Spirit on the people there, and He answered our prayer. Many of our friends are seeking and questioning. The more we get to know some of them, the deeper they want to go with us.
Today marked the one-year anniversary of God's call to begin Grace's Kitchen. God has been more than clear over the past year about what we are to do. We are called to feed people, both physically and spiritually. We will continue as long as He tells us to do it. We have seen God's faithfulness firsthand over the past 12 months and have experienced the steadfast love mentioned in today's scripture. We continue to pray for wisdom and are humbled by the opportunity to serve. Soli Deo Gloria!
